ShiftNrg Developers’ Update
Our dev team wants to keep you informed of the progress being made towards decentralizing the web. To this end, we will be publishing monthly dev updates to the best of our ability. These developer updates will be in addition to our quarterly summaries. While we will do our best to meet these deadlines, we also must understand that our developers have full-time jobs outside of the project and sometimes life just happens, so please bear with us as we experiment with opportunities to keep the community abreast of the diligent work our devs are delivering.
Over the last couple of weeks, we have been building up the wSHIFT bridge design and data model. First, we set pieces of cloud infrastructure in place to be ready for development, such as a MySQL database to track migration data, which includes burn transactions, SHIFT wallet signatures, and ETH wallet signatures. The current design will allow for the following:
1. Coinholder burns SHIFT
2. Coinholder sends signed message (1st signature), which includes ETH address and Burn Tx IDs, from SHIFT wallet to migration services
3. Coinholder sends signed message (2nd signature), which includes SHIFT address, from ETH wallet to migration services
4. Once migration services receive the signatures it will verify the sender and match the SHIFT and ETH addresses, which will denote the ETH address where wSHIFT will be minted; the services will also verify the burn Txs
5. If all is valid then wSHIFT will be minted.
We have fleshed out a serverless architecture which we will deploy to AWS. The architecture will allow us to expand the services to handle migrations after the Shift mainnet is shut down, as well as, migration to Substrate-based Shift.
Note: Once the Lisk-based mainnet is retired, the burn step will no longer be necessary.
While we continue to make progress on the bridge, we remain hard at work expanding wSHIFT swaps to everyone and shutting down the mainnet so that we may refocus our efforts on the future of decentralization.
